President of the Pakistan Sports Writers Federation and Secretary General of AIPS Asia, Amjad Aziz Malik, has termed the DHA Hockey Academy, Lahore a major step towards the revival of Pakistan hockey, urging young players to dedicate themselves to restoring the country’s lost glory in the national game.
He expressed these views while addressing under-30 players participating in training sessions at the DHA Hockey Academy at Manzoorul Hassan Hockey Stadium. Former Olympian Manzoorul Hassan and ex-World Cup player Colonel Saeed Khan were also present on the occasion.
Malik received a warm welcome upon his arrival at the stadium, where he was introduced to the young players. Addressing the participants, he described hockey as a symbol of Pakistan’s identity, national pride and glorious sporting traditions. He stressed that the younger generation must work with commitment, discipline and patriotic spirit to bring Pakistan back among the leading nations in world hockey.
Recalling Pakistan’s historic achievements, he said the country had earned global recognition by winning Olympic gold medals, World Cups, Champions Trophy titles and Asian Games championships. He paid tribute to the legendary hockey players who brought fame to Pakistan through their outstanding performances on the international stage.
He advised the young athletes to focus not only on sports but also on education, physical fitness, discipline and character building. According to him, these players have the potential to represent Pakistan at the international level and carry the national flag with pride in future competitions.
Highlighting the significance of the DHA Hockey Academy, he said such initiatives were vital for nurturing fresh talent and strengthening the future of Pakistan hockey. He remarked that success in sports could only be achieved through continuous hard work, sacrifice and determination rather than talent alone.
Encouraging the players to remain focused on their dreams, he urged them to move forward with confidence and national spirit so that Pakistan could once again reclaim its former stature in world hockey.
On the occasion, Malik also paid rich tribute to Manzoorul Hassan, who is currently serving as head coach of the Pakistan Hockey Federation. He presented the latest edition of the AIPS Asia magazine to the Olympian in recognition of his services to the sport.
